What will be the driving forces behind the next generation of gadgets?

In the past we could say that gadgets were for geeks and early adopters. I would know, since I was one of them waiting a minimum of 4 hours in the cold to get a seat at the Apple keynote every January in San-Francisco and roaming the CES alleys in Vegas the following week to bring back some magic to France and impress everyone. Even if some of these gadgets used were questionable for a sane person, it gave the customer the feeling of belonging to a special community of those who know better and shape the future, making it worth the price, then and there.
